A good southern mac and cheese

Sometimes you just need some good ol' southern comfort, and for someone who has to cook things one handed lately, this was a breeze to do with babe in tote!

What you'll need
3 tbs butter (soften)
3 tbs flour
2 cups milk
1 1/2 or 2 cups grated sharp cheese (to your liking) + some for garnishing
Worcestershire sauce (i just add a splash)
salt and pepper (for a little kick I also throw in a little cheyenne pepper)
breadcrumbs for garnishing
shell macaroni
1 tbs extra virgin olive oil

How to make it
preheat oven to 400 degrees
cook the shell macaroni, then drain and let sit
make the sauce on medium heat by. . .
melting the butter and adding the flour
whisk until smooth
add milk slowly
let this thicken (takes about five minutes)
stir continually
add the cheese, keep on whisking while you do that
add salt, pepper, and a splash of worcestershire sauce.
use evoo (extra virgin olive oil) to grease the bottom of the baking pan
wipe away any excess oil
add the mac to line the bottom of the pan
cover the mac with the cheese mixture
cover the top with a layer of grated cheese & breadcrumbs to create that crispy top layer
cook for 20-25 min at 400 degrees

  2. Cori,

Thank you so much! It is one of my favorite go tos now that the weather is starting to cool down. I think the worcestershire sauce adds a little punch that it lacks otherwise. Hope you like it!

Also, thank you so much for your kind words about the new design. I wanted something a little fresher + easier to navigate.

    xo and happy almost weekend!
