Aida Mae's Room

Our little girl's room sure was the hardest one's for me to put together. I wanted to create something feminine for her, but not super girlie.

I'm the kind of girl that loves to wear men's sweaters from Target with some Free People flats to make it more feminine. I love greys, blues, black, and white. As a matter of fact, that's probably the only "color" in my closet. Being girlie just isn't easy for me. That's probably why I struggled so hard with her room. I even dress her in almost all of her big brother's old clothes, and throw a bonnet on her to make it a bit more obvious she's a girl.

It seemed every time I had a vision for her room,  it was either too grown up, too boyish, or just not right. It almost felt like trying Cinderella's glass slipper on the ugly stepsister. When my husband put up this wood wall, it all started to make sense to me. My vision became crystal clear.

I would make her room industrial, modern, and pink. I moved the pink rug and cowhide from our living room into her space, and suddenly it had that girl feel I was looking for, done ever so subtly. I added a bit more of that girl room feel with the accessories on her shelves, the pom-pom garlands, lumbar pillow, and art. Before I knew it her room was complete, and I could finally take a step back. It was "perfect," for her at least.
